Roosevelt County Events Arena
These days in Portales the hottest ticket in town is to any event being held at the new Roosevelt County Events Arena at the Roosevelt County Fairgrounds.
Since it opened in late 2011, the nearly 50,000 square foot indoor arena has become home to some of the premier events in the community including the New Mexico Ag Expo, an agricultural trade show held in February and the Peanut Valley Festival, a craft and music festival held in October. It also plays a big role in hosting the Roosevelt County Fair too.
Many weekends year-round the indoor arena is booked for calf and team ropings, barrel races and rodeos. Professional roper Jerrad Hofstetter holds roping schools at the arena.
While its main function is for rodeo events and livestock shows, the RCEA was set up to be as multi-purpose as possible. The main floor of the arena can be hard-packed and used for conventions, concerts, festivals and other celebrations. Two sections of seat-back bleachers will accommodate up to 500 spectators.
The building is heated and air-conditioned and large roll-up doors on three sides allow easy access and ventilation. Bathrooms are conveniently located and an announcer’s stand with state-of-the-art public address and WiFi systems are available.
In addition to the RCEA the County rents several other venues on the fairgrounds to the public, including a multi-purpose community center, an outdoor arena and outdoor stage and dance slab.
