Eastern New Mexico University helps develop art in the community and offers extensive training to university artists through its intensive fine arts and bachelor’s degree programs.
The university also hosts numerous art shows and exhibitions, which in the past have included notable exhibits from institutions such as the Smithsonian, in addition to showcases of local artists.
In addition, the university’s state-of-the-art theatre hosts several theatrical productions throughout the year, all of which are open to the public. The university’s assorted musical groups also put on special events, from student recitals to the fall POPs dinner concert.
The Yam Theatre, through its association with Portales MainStreet Program, also regularly hosts a variety of entertainment options from free family movies to concerts and dances.
The Peanut Valley Festival is the most popular arts and crafts event on the High Plains and draws visitors and vendors from throughout the region. In addition, top local and regional bands entertain at the event.
