Press Release
A Successful Conclusion to a Community Project
The Roosevelt County Community Development Corporation (RCCDC) announces the Grand Opening of the Best Western Plus Portales Inn to be held on Saturday May 18
th and the public is invited to celebrate and tour the hotel during the hours of 1pm to 4pm.
The Portales Inn, built in 1950 as the Cal Boykin Hotel, later in the 60’s becoming the Plains Ambassador Hotel and it then went through many iterations and eventually shut down. A few contractors made attempts to resurrect the hotel in some fashion, but these failed as well.
The RCCDC, Portales Mainstreet and the City working together attracted Ambience Hospitality LLC in 2017 to consider renovating the hotel and joining its sister hotels in Portales the Super 8 and the Holiday Inn Express. Using incentives through the local LEDA fund, the community was able to make the project less risky to Ambience and at the same time find someone who would take a building that was becoming a potential eyesore and turn it once again into a truly beautiful addition to our community.
The community thanks Mr. Dan Kumar and Ambience LLC for investing in Portales. We invite any and all that are interested in seeing this new addition to the City of Portales to pay a visit and tour the beautiful building. Refreshments will be available.
