La Casa Family Health Center Gears Up For the Summer Food Service Program in Clovis and Portales
La Casa Family Health Center is sponsoring the 2021 Clovis/Portales Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) administered by the New Mexico Children, Youth and Families Department, Family Nutrition Bureau, and the USDA. This program is designed to fill the gap during the summer months, for children ages 1-18, who normally receive free meals provided by their school. La Casa Family Health Center will be serving breakfast and lunch in a drive-up, grab and go setting at all sites. The program will begin in Clovis, Portales, Texico, and Melrose on Tuesday, June 1st, and will end on August 6, 2021.
“The SFSP is a wonderful way to ensure that children are receiving nutritious meals during the months that school is not in session,” says David Briseño, La Casa Family Health Center Director of Outreach and the Summer Food Service Program. “However, with the situation being as fluid as it currently is, and with the need to discourage large gatherings of people, we will utilize a drive-in, grab and go meal distribution”, he added. Breakfast and lunch will be served at the same time. Service time will be from 9:30 am to 12 pm, Monday through Friday.
Individuals are to stay in their vehicles and La Casa Summer Food Service Program staff will deliver the meals to the vehicle. The number of meals delivered will be based on the number of eligible children in the vehicle or that the adult states are needing meals. Walk-ups will be allowed but the individuals must leave the area once they pick up their meals.
